Coalition for TJ v. Fairfax County School Board

Federal judge Claude Hilton ruled that Fairfax County school officials violated the law by changing admissions requirements to deliberately reduce the number of Asian American students enrolled. The decision was appealed to the Fourth Circuit, which rejected the lower court’s ruling, holding that as long as the percentage of Asian American students admitted to TJ is higher than the local population, no discrimination has occurred. The case was appealed to the US Supreme Court, which declined to hear the case.
