Internships

Want to help people understand, protect, and strengthen employee rights? Want to learn more about employment law, website development, communications, marketing, fundraising, and the ins and outs of nonprofit organizations? Or apply what you already know to a worthy cause? Be a Workplace Fairness intern!

Workplace Fairness seeks law students to fill the “Legal/Communications Intern” position. Legal/Communications Interns will work closely with Workplace Fairness staff and will be integrally involved in the process of preparing legal content for the Workplace Fairness website, as well as researching and preparing materials regarding cutting-edge workplace issues, for blogs, action alerts, and other web-based communications.

By the end of the internship, an Applicant will acquire the following skills:

  • improve writing skills by developing communications plans and advocacy campaigns as they relate to employee rights.
  • gain an understanding of the mechanics of writing content and preparing for e-newsletters for email distribution to customers.
  • develop methods for constituent engagement in conjunction with the organization’s branding, PR, and fundraising objectives, and assist in writing action alerts, e-newsletters, blogs, special reports, and web content.

The Applicant must have excellent legal writing and research skills, and generally be comfortable with online work and research. Although experience in employment law is preferred, Workplace Fairness is primarily interested in working with students who are self-motivated, focused, Web-savvy, and strongly interested in protecting the rights of workers.

This position is either a part-time paid position or a part-time school credit position. Please note that Workplace Fairness has only up to two paid part-time slots per semester

For the part-time paid positions, the Legal/Communications Intern is expected to work 10 hours a week at $15/hr. For the part-time school credit positions, work expectations are subject to the requirements of the law school’s externship program. While Workplace Fairness is headquartered in the Washington, DC area, the Intern can work remotely from any location. Students whose job options are geographically limited or who prefer to telecommute may find the flexibility of this type of internship ideal.

To apply, end an e-mail (subject line: Legal/Communications Intern) with your coverletter, resume, and writing sample, attached (PDF) to office@workplacefairness.org.
