Jefferson County [Arkansas] ACORN members on Tuesday delivered more than 3,000 signatures on petitions aimed
at placing a "living wage" ordinance on the November ballot. The proposed ordinance requires Pine Bluff city
government and contractors with the city to pay employees a bottom-level wage of $9 per hour, plus health
insurance. Similar measures have been passed in more than 80 cities across the nation. The proposal also
requires companies receiving tax breaks and other assistance from the city of Pine Bluff to pay their employees
the higher minimum wage.
