About WF Law School Graduate Fellowship

Workplace Fairness, 2009 Webby Nominee for "Best Law Site," seeks a recent law school graduate with a deferral option from a law firm or post-graduate public interest fellowship funding to fill a law graduate fellowship position with the organization. Workplace Fairness is happy to work with incoming associates and/or law graduates on deferral arrangement or public interest fellowship requirements.

The Fellowship will begin in September 2009 or at the fellow's convenience, and continue throughout the funded period: preferably one year, but shorter funding periods will be considered. The Fellow will serve as a member of the Workplace Fairness staff, led by Executive Director Paula Brantner, and will be integrally involved in the process of preparing legal content for the Workplace Fairness website (www.workplacefairness.org), as well as researching and preparing materials regarding cutting-edge workplace issues, for blogs, e-newsletters, action alerts, special reports and other web-based communications.

The Fellow will also:

  • Assist in conceiving, developing and planning new programmatic initiatives for the Workplace Fairness website;
  • Coordinate the work of interns and/or volunteer attorneys developing content for the Workplace Fairness website;
  • Respond to public queries about employment law questions and workplace issues;
  • Maintain relationships with public interest advocates, academics and private practitioners who support Workplace Fairness;
  • Communicate with attorney clients of Workplace Fairness's web products.
  • Perform other legal research and writing projects as assigned; and
  • Attend conferences, hearings or other events as assigned;

A law degree from a U.S. law school is required. (Law students who have not yet graduated will be considered for internship positions.) The ideal candidate will be a recent law school graduate who is Web- and business-savvy, with excellent research, writing, and oral communication skills. He or she also will have demonstrated initiative, flexibility, organization, and attention to detail. Although experience in employment law and/or technology-related businesses is preferred, our highest priority is to work with individuals who are self-motivated, focused, and strongly interested in protecting workers. Fluency in a second language is desirable.

While our organization is headquartered in Washington, DC, fellows can work remotely from any location. Law graduates whose job options are geographically limited or who prefer to telecommute may find the flexibility of this arrangement ideal.

Workplace Fairness is an equal opportunity employer: women, people of color, people with disabilities, and gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people are encouraged to apply. To apply, send a cover letter; resume; and three references to Workplace Fairness via email (intern@workplacefairness.org with "Law Fellow Candidate" in the subject line.) No phone calls please.
